Singapore, where to eat, drink and host

Image
I will take a different take on where to eat, drink and host your friends or relatives .... SG has plenty of hang out places and serve good drink. Market is dominated by some local beer Tiger and other imported beers such as Guinness, Asahi and others.  Why do you make social events?  To have a drink after a tough work day?  To celebrate some good things happening with your colleagues or friends? To host your friends and relatives who are visiting SG?  that means, you also need decent food to taste ! Hence, I will list down some good places to have nice food and some drink !!! They are not ranked in any order, but covers all sides of Singapore Island. 1)  BluJaz  , Bugis: Located at the commercial hub, they serve Italian food & Indian food. There is live music from 8pm. Pls get inside the pub or get the window seat behind the Live music gallery else you can't listen !! It is normally a crowded place during Fri and Sat. Do reserve and go.  2)  ...

Dong Pho, Saigon, District 3

Image
When the local friends recommended Dong Pho of District 3., I didn't presume much. Let us hit the place tonite was my only reaction. Little did I expect the heavenly taste of food.  My friend ordered some prawn and noodles. I opted for 5 course vegetarian dinner set with a simple belief that I can taste authentic Vietnamese food in one shot.   http://www.dongphorestaurant. com/ Fresh banana bud salad was the first item. It had crisp banana and tasty noodles mixed with some vegetables. Surprise for me was more from fragrance and the ideal quantity of food.  Second item was assorted steamed dumplings ... they were wrapped under leaves and had different sauce. I have to take advice to find out which dumplings will go better with which sauce !!!  Third item was Hue Style Pancake... stuffed with lot of vegetables and accompanied by some cucumber... this felt heavy finally. By this time, my friend was convinced that vege...

Dine at Capella, Sentosa, Singapore

Image
For almost a year now, I wanted to visit Capella. My curiosity factor increased after the visit of American President Trump to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during June 2018. I ended dining this weekend at Capella and I loved every bit of the ambience, fabulous architecture and the wonderful crew who was taking care. Self and my friend made a reservation at Bob's bar, parked the car and took the elevator at 2nd floor. As we spent some time at Silosa beach before going Capella, we refreshed at the restroom before taking our seats. We were hosted by a smiling, service minded crew with a nice view overlooking the pool and sea... We ordered the cocktails first with a newspaper like Menu Card with wide variety to choose from. I was pleasantly surprised by their own Rum coming from West Indies too. Fabulous live music was also being performed with 2 guitarists and one Cello player. Music was soothing and made our mood pleasant while the rain cloud was...

Meatless, fusion food at Millenia Walk

Image
I landed up at Elemen at Millenia Walk. My friend invited me for dinner.. glanced the portal before and saw some pics.. Liked it., so I said, lets go. But I didnt see the 8 course option till I opened the menu card !!! My friend said, you should go for the full dinner and can help with sharing some of my food - which is a no brainer for me. I ordered it. Appetiser and the bread was very good. My guess the middle portion item had sesame and it was bit sour - but not too bad. Tomato was so tasty and soft. Bread was little herbal too.  I opted for Rojak fruit salad - which was too good - pineapple and dragon fruit was mouth watering and the fried or crispy item was so tempting...  Soup - was not very hot... in fact little less than room temperature.... but had little bit of rice and pepper and very tasty. They also served Apple Cider before serving mains - like a shot drink. Hope the readers know how to drink apple cider carefully as ...

Eat out at Jim Thompson, Singapore

Image
We went for a dinner at Jim Thompson. It is a beautiful property at Dempsey hill, Minden road. Do I have to really say, it is a Thai restaurant ? Fabulous menu... so many options... We started conservatively with Satay and the traditional mango salad, Spring roll... & the real surprise was the pineapple rice .... wonderfully presented and tasted perfectly... I was avoiding this for a long time thinking it will be too sweet... but it wasn't !!! Ambience was so perfect and we order Salentein wine from Malbec. It turned out to be a ideal choice and the team members stuck with it for entire dinner session and we repeated the wine order. The meat was good too. either the chicken or prawns...  crew was good and caring. They have some dancers with fancy costume, nails and move around couple of times... Be prepared to spend couple of hours when you go there... great place to hang out as couples or team dinner... Bon Appetit !
