Magnificient Moscow

Image
The Russian capital of Moscow can be described in one word... Magnificient. Why ? It is the sheer size ... be it Red Square, metro stations, victory park or the Moskva river etc etc. I stayed at Weekend Inn Apartments at Ulitsa Pyatnitskaya ... it had a weird elevator.. but room was good and had a decent common kitchen. What i loved was the proximity to Red Square..... kind of 1 km walk and a starbucks shop on its way ! Out of the all the cathedrals you visit, Saint Basil is very unique... it is some kind of fusion architecture, colorful. It has a character and the best part... it looks same on what you saw on wall posts or videos on new channels... Red Square has lot of attractions like Lenin's Mausoleum, Kazan cathedral and Kremlin and they are all unique in its own way. Moscow's metro stations are so huge. It is like some 5 storey escalators... and superb, lavish mosaics, sculputres and stained glass art work. Do not miss visiting these fabulous metro sta...

FIFA World Cup 2018 and the stadium experience

Image
I went to Russia during FIFA world cup 2018 and I got two QF tickets for Brazil vs Belgium match and Russia vs Croatia match. It was a great experience of mingling with fans from so many countries and to enjoy some drink at Pubs. Stadium atmosphere was so electrifying and the chanting was at its best. Size of stadiums, the corridors, the security check was so detailed and impressive. Kazan Arena had wonderful lighting sense where as Sochi Fisht was on the oceanside and the sea breeze was so wonderful. Souvenair shops and the food options at Sochi was stunning, when compared to Kazan. Kazan was a simple city where compared to Sochi's magnificnent mountains, excellent tunnel infrastructure etc. I felt Kazan airport found it difficult to handle the volume of travellers. Unfortunate part of every major sports event is the high price of accomodation... Russia was no different. The prices were easily 4 times of normal cost but the properties were reasonably well f...

Martin Mere wetland, Lancashire

Image
I visited Martin Mere Wetland reserve at Lancashire in 2011. I fondly remembered the large land and walking aroud while I was scanning through old pictures and decided to write about it. Pls plan your visit -->  https://www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/martin-mere/plan-your-visit/ I vividly remember the nice spaces created for photographers and it was awesome to setup tripod and tracking the birds. I also recollect the cute, active  Grey crowned Crane and it was very nice to see it running here and there and never stopping. More than hundreds of birds are there inside wet lands and season details are nicely detailed out in the portal. Enjoy and support nature.

Eat out at Jim Thompson, Singapore

Image
We went for a dinner at Jim Thompson. It is a beautiful property at Dempsey hill, Minden road. Do I have to really say, it is a Thai restaurant ? Fabulous menu... so many options... We started conservatively with Satay and the traditional mango salad, Spring roll... & the real surprise was the pineapple rice .... wonderfully presented and tasted perfectly... I was avoiding this for a long time thinking it will be too sweet... but it wasn't !!! Ambience was so perfect and we order Salentein wine from Malbec. It turned out to be a ideal choice and the team members stuck with it for entire dinner session and we repeated the wine order. The meat was good too. either the chicken or prawns...  crew was good and caring. They have some dancers with fancy costume, nails and move around couple of times... Be prepared to spend couple of hours when you go there... great place to hang out as couples or team dinner... Bon Appetit !

Exploring Putrajaya

Image
Putrajaya is close to KL and the drives takes anywhere from 30-50 min based in traffic and peak hour. It is also well connected to KLIA airport. It is part of Selangor district and Designed to be a administrative town of Malaysian govt and its officials, the town gives some sort of European feel and the river cuts across nicely. To simply put, Engineers had designed and executed well while creating Putrajaya. There is lot to explore ... like., Putra Mosque, Iron Mosque, Mercu Tanda Park, Botanical Garden, Putraja Lake and Bridge. District 21 theme park takes care of family needs. IOI City Mall offers more than 300 outlets, movies and ice skating facilities. It is a good place for site seeing; plenty of food options; Do explore and dont forget to take your sun glasses ! I forgot and I struggled a bit in bright sun shine !

Jersey, Channel Islands

Image
There is a small little island called Jersey known as Channel Islands and it is also known as St. Helier.  It was a normal island which was used for leisure activities till 80s and UK Government polished it and made it as tax haven. Beauty of the town is its fabulous coast and the great sound of ocean waves anywhere you roam. I am lucky to visit the place in 2012 and I share some of my favourite thoughts about this place. Jersey city centre is fairly small and located behind Liberty House and the Hotel Pomme D'Or. New Street has some offices and some retail shops; the place is filled with lot of restaurents too. It is always nice to walk from Liberty House to Grand Jersey. Fabulous harbour is located across the road and provides superb view of Elizabeth Castle too. How can I ever forget the elaborate breakfast ofered at these hotels !! I used to like and stay at a quiet hotel called Norfolk ... just for the fabulous food I get there ! Norfolk used to arrange some live...

Sheikh Zayad Grand Mosque

Image
Sheikh Zayad Grand Mosque is exceptionally attractive, has classy architecture and presents itself as larger than life when you walk inside. Grand Mosque sits majestically at the entrance to Abu Dhabi City Island, distinctly visible from the three main bridges connecting the island to the main land, the Maqta, Mussafah and the Sheikh Zayed Bridge.  There are 82 domes of various sizes and the largest is located in the centre of the main prayer hall.  The design elements include pure white marble cladding; onion shaped ‘crowns’ and crescent shaped finials decorated with gold-glass mosaic. The pure white colour of the Mosque has become one of its most distinguishing characteristics.  White is a symbol of purity and piety.  The main prayer hall houses the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet. The intricate Islamic medallion design was made by third generation carpet maker and artist, Dr. Ali Khaliqi.  The predominantly wool carpet was hand-...
