Explore Windsor Castle, Berkshire, London
In 2020-2021, one of my team mate was living at Slough. I managed to spend the xmas break of 2020 at his place. Due to Covid, we kept it light and explored the neighbourhood during the day and cooked in the evening, watched some movies in Netflix and dozed off.
Some of my interesting observations of the gorgeous neighbourhood of Windsor are:
A. There is no issue of buying Asian groceries at Slough neighbourhood.
B. It feels closer to Heathrow but it is not really close. You need to commute in some circular way.
C. There are some cafes around Windsor castle and they serve good snacks.
D. I was pleasantly surprised by the Dorney Lake (https://www.dorneylake.co.uk/seasonal-grounds-visiting). The place is magnificient, beautiful, got a small cafe. Plenty of family people visit here as well. You can do a rectangular walk and return to parking spot (around 6km)
E. If you follow rowing events, check out the calendar before your visit. Eton wick is nearby and if you can start your walk from there, you can make it as a circular walk as well (around 10km)
F. Everyone must have heard about the The Long Walk. Oh yes, it is long & straight. There is not much to see on either sides in majority of the path. Sometimes, you can spot Deer or gang of Deer. This place is also frequented by family crowd. It is a 2.3 mile walk (one way).
G. On one side, you got the ancient Windsor Castle surrounded by its lively town.
At the other end, on the rise called Snow Hill, stands the Copper Horse, a bronze statue of King George III on horseback.
If you use car, there are ample parking spots around Bishop’s Gate end. It is difficult to park at town center / near castle.
H. There is also Thames walk behind Dorney Lake. You can use Windsor Marina as a reference and explore. This part of Thames is also called as Jubilee River.
