Explore Katong and Joo Chiat

Singapore has got some nice neighbourhoods to explore shop, walk, observe peranakan artefacts, couture from various regions & food (as always) etc.  

Joo Chiat Road is one long road and has got lot of small lanes. Hence, the right starting point for your walk is Hotel 81 Sakura at Joo Chiat Road and walk toward i12 Katong mall. 

Best way is to walk along and explore some shops based on your interest. 

There are some interesting fashion shops such as EmGallery, Vintage Tale, Persian Boutique, Anglia, THWAB Store, r y e, Brisa, The AC etc. 

Plenty of cafes as well such as Little Farms, Two Men Bagel, Petit Pain etc.

There are some pubs as well - but I have not visited any recently. Gun Pub, Cider Pit etc

Koon Seng Road has got some colourful shop houses and do not miss to notice the bright Peranakan tiles as well. There are some murals as well on large walls. 

Food is wonderful to miss at Katong: 328 Katong Laksa is very famous and there is a nice 19th century, chola style Indian Temple nearby as well (Ceylon Road). It was visited recently by Dua Lipa. 

Beach Road Prawn noodle house is very popular and close around 4pm. Do not miss the spicy chili sauce !! The Brewing Ground has got some Alfresco deck. 

Usually, there is some bit of Queue for Mr and Mrs Mohgan’s Super Crispy Roti Prata. It is fluffy and very popular with locals. 

Some of the interesting galleries are Katong Antique House, Eurasian Heritage Gallery & Straits Enclave for Peranakan artefacts. There is also one private museum called The Intan as well.

The Russian capital of Moscow can be described in one word... Magnificient. Why ? It is the sheer size ... be it Red Square, metro stations, victory park or the Moskva river etc etc. I stayed at Weekend Inn Apartments at Ulitsa Pyatnitskaya ... it had a weird elevator.. but room was good and had a decent common kitchen. What to do in Bintan and Batam

There are two nice towns near Singapore and they are as called Batam and Bintan. Oh yes, you are right - they are in Indonesia. Let us chat about what to do there ! Trust me., they are ideal weekend getaways... Batam: Ferry and Immigration:  Simple to reach, just an hour of ferry ride. No heavy tides. Straight forward immigration process at both sides. Sometimes, you might have put up with 30 min in Queue at Indonesian sides during peak hours. But 3 day or 4 day week ends - be there much ahead. You generally dont get questions about your purpose of visit or where you stay ... Hotels:  Lot of good hotels in Batam - ideal place to stay is Nagoya as it is closer to Nagoya Hill Mall. There are so many options and price range and I like Harmoni Hotel and Swiss Inn Batam.  Some of the very good pubs are located walkable distance from Harmoni Hotel or Goodway Hotel - like The Last Pub or Chilli Bar.
